The bottom line is: All writing’s ultimate test is how it resonates with the reader. While provocation is good, the last thing you want is to alienate.
- You need a sensitive pair of eyes on your outline, treatment or synopsis?
- You need an honest and in-depth look at your feature screenplay, TV pilot, or writing sample that tackles how you handle gender, race and other sensitive issues?
- You think you have a good handle on these topics, but want to be certain?
I thoroughly enjoy reading other writers’ works and showing them what worked in my eyes and what didn’t – why included. I love offering suggestions and alternatives, not as definite answers to your project’s issues but as suggestions that will inspire you to find the perfect solution that fits your vision.
I care about the story, first and foremost. Each story is different and has its own unique needs. In me, you will find a consultant and sensitivity reader with an open mind and a genuine love for the craft, who won’t let their own preferences color the energy they invest into your script.
I’m here for you to consult on your treatments, outlines or scripts.
To be clear, I’m not offering coverage, story analyses, or synopses/loglines.
Why? Because I’m a writer, not a reader, and think that formulaic approaches fall short when it comes to the writing process.

Your insights and leading questions have, once again, helped me find clarity. I love your positive comments and your suggestions have led me to quite a few aha's! It is so important to be able to get feedback from someone who isn't close to the material... and the way you break it all down always makes me feel like you care about the story and characters as much as I do.
I will be sharing your services as a resource for my writing friends! Receiving notes that are actionable and include what's working... invaluable!!
“I first met Jay in an international screenwriter accountability group online; one they facilitated. Their keen eye worked as a spotlight to help me focus on what worked, and what didn't. Their honest and insightful feedback continues to encourage me to make my 'good' scripts cleaner, clearer, my best.
Experienced and professional in their approach, Jay is a great script consultant. Someone I highly recommend.”
“Jay is a gifted and exacting script editor and reviewer. They reviewed and critiqued my tv drama script and television story bible and both their notes and editing corrections raised and improved the level of my script. Jay has a great command of English grammar and is an exacting and careful editor correcting details that I had overlooked and providing great perspectives and wider angles for any screenwriter’s film or television script! Recommended for both aspiring and seasoned writers!”Texas, USA
I am an attentive reader who does their research, as my notes will show.
That means I invest a lot of time in scripts, might even re-read them in their entirety, and will think deeply on feedback. I never speed-read through someone’s work, and my prices reflect that.
As a trans*, queer person with a degree in anthropology and film studies, I have a keen eye for representation in scripts and projects. At the same time, I am fully aware of my privileges – white privilege, passing privilege as cis female, thin privilege in a weight-sigmatized culture.
The result? A unique perspective that will benefit any script intended for an international or Western-centric market.
I offer my services as a sensitivity reader with a degree in social and cultural anthropology as well as film studies.
What I do NOT offer is simple feedback. You can follow my personal journey in my blog post on the topic, but the long and short of it is:
- Creativity should be encouraged and accessible for everybody regardless of economic status.
- Us writers are a community and as such should encourage and help one another. Charging for simple notes makes me feel like I am part of the exact opposite of what I deem ‘right’, namely exploitative industry monetizing the ambitions of fellow writers. That’s also why I am a proud member of Scriptrevolution, and have yet to put any of my work up on Blacklist.
- While I am not what one would call financially secure, I have a certain level of privilege on many fronts. Sure, being paid for feedback would be wonderful, but I sleep better when I stick to my principles.
Of course my time is limited, so this way I can’t give notes to everyone asking for them within a reasonable time period. Patience will be the price you pay, I guess?

Sensitivity reads include:
Detailed notes on suggested changes and constructive feedback within the PDF of the script, plus an extra write-up (about 2 pages minimum) with my overarching thoughts, suggestions and praise. My goal is to be constructive and motivating, after all!
I’ve had the honour of helping fellow writers in the long-term, bouncing ideas, developing their scripts, providing feedback, all in a nurturing, safe and positive environment. If you’re looking for a ‘partner in crime’, maybe I’m the one for you! Due to time constraints, I am not able to offer this free-of-charge. If you’re interested, simply get in touch :)
Consulting on projects and mentoring others is one step on this long, complicated journey.
Yes. No hidden costs, no “I gave you great advice, so now pay me”. You receive free feedback when I can manage to make the time and I don’t expect payment.
If you want to give me a tip or support me by becoming a Patreon, you’re very welcome to, though :)
That really depends on my current workload, I’m afraid.
If you’re preparing for a deadline, let me know and I see what I can do, alright?
If you wish faster notes, just say so – I prefer to sleep on my thoughts and process my feedback before sending it off, but I’m willing to be quicker if required.
I hold a degree in social and cultural anthropology as well as film studies.
On a personal level, I am a trans*, queer person who has been confronting their white privilege for several years now.
I’ve written, directed and produced two short films, optioned one original feature script and am on my third paid rewrite gig. In 2019, I was also honoured to be asked to judge a youth film festival in Bavaria, Germany.
These experiences and realities of my life, as well as my passion for continued education, make me qualified as a sensitivity reader.
When it comes to general feedback, however, I believe that ANYONE – and I do mean anyone – who enjoys consuming media is “qualified” to give feedback. We’re all just viewers, at the end of the day. Films and television is such a subjective art form and whoever claims that one needs a certain education is an elitist who is just out for your money. (Please, RUN FROM THOSE POEPLE.)
